A novel and intuitive way of learning English.

A little bit about us

WHO & WHAT

XL Academy is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering non-English speaking international students by teaching them English, math, and other essential subjects. Founded by children who were inspired after meeting underprivileged peers, our mission is to create opportunities and break down language barriers for those who might otherwise lack access to education. We believe that everyone has inherent potential, and XL Academy is committed to helping individuals unlock their greatness and share it with the world.

WHY

Many Vietnamese immigrants and Vietnamese people have trouble learning English, and many problems can arise from this. A child in school could be socially challenged, a person who needs a job could have a lower success rate, people who need healthcare could have limited options due to this language barrier, and many more. This is exactly why XL Academy exists, to bridge the language gap between people all over the world. Many people speak English everyday, but they don’t understand the value of learning a language, or even having an education. Many people take this for granted, and others need it. In XL, we teach children at a young age math, language skills, and many more.

WHEN

By the end of 2025, XL Academy plans to begin our teaching journey, starting with the education of orphans from a rural village in Vietnam. From this small region, we intend to spread across the globe, with the vision of inventing countless possibilities for those in need. As we work harder and harder each day with the hope of accomplishing this goal, we ask you to consider donating to our nonprofit in support of this incredible cause. Not only is your contribution greatly appreciated by the board and faculty members of XL Academy, but your decision may also impact the futures of children around the world.

HOW

XL Academy welcomes your contributions and endowments. This will provide us with the resources to help children in Vietnam. With your donations, these kids can learn English, but it all depends on your generosity.

Meet Our Teachers

Adrian Doan

Adrian Doan

Hi, I'm Adrian, the CEO of XLAcademy I'm currently a junior in highschool and my interests include robotics, swimming, and 3d modelling. I'm currently studying mandarin, and after also visiting other countries and seeing how the students there study I became interested in the possibility of teaching and/or helping students learn languages.

My name is Isabella, though I often go by Bella. I am one of the founding board members of XL Academy. I’m the communication officer. At the age 11 years old, I am an active and engaged sixth grader. I play the piano, swim, and pursue personal projects in my free time. Currently, I serve as the secretary for XL Academy, where I have the opportunity to collaborate with exceptional youths. Inspired by my brother's achievements in tackling challenging endeavors, I have dedicated myself to teaching English to children from other countries. My role at XL Academy allows me to work with other young students, fostering a love for learning and helping them overcome obstacles.
Elizabeth Witte

Elizabeth Witte

I was born in San Francisco, currently live in El Cerrito, and am a secretary for XL Academy. I enjoy reading and baking in my spare time. I believe all children should have opportunity to communicate with their peers, language barrier or not. I hope to help children around the world experience different cultures for the first time by expanding their linguistic knowledge of the English language.
Hunter Doan

Hunter Doan

Greetings, name is Hunter, I was born in San Francisco and is a founding member of XL academy. I am 7th grader, and specialize in the subject of Math and art. In my past time, I like to draw, make music, design, and play with my friends. I was inspired to work on this program by one of my previous trips to the country of Vietnam. My family brought me to an orphanage and we were blessed with the opportunity to bless these orphans. This trip made me gravitate to the idea of helping under-privileged kids. My name Hunter, it is the name of power, and dignity. I want to fulfill my name of power. And I want to give that power to others through this program.

Theo Le Nguyen

I am Theo Le Nguyen, an 11 year old Vietnamese American boy who lives in California and wants to help bridge the language gap for young Vietnamese students learning at XL Academy. Some of my hobbies include taekwondo, coding and reading which will help teach young students learning english and other subjects to accomplish their goals and excite them to learn new things. My part in XL academy will hopefully strengthen bonds with younger students and inspire students to become a better self.
Our Agenda

Formation of Non-Profit

XL Academy will begin its journey by formally establishing itself as a non-profit organization, adhering to all legal requirements and regulations in California. Our founding team, comprised of dedicated friends and cousins, will work collaboratively to draft the necessary documentation, including bylaws and articles of incorporation. We will also apply for tax-exempt status to ensure our operations are financially sustainable. To develop a robust funding mission, we will engage in community outreach, seeking support from local businesses, educational institutions, and philanthropic individuals who share our vision. Additionally, we will explore grant opportunities and organize fundraising events to secure the necessary resources. Our logistics plan includes setting up a remote video-based learning platform, recruiting qualified educators, and developing a comprehensive curriculum tailored to the needs of international and foreign students. Through these efforts, XL Academy aims to create an inclusive and effective learning environment that empowers students to excel in English and other subjects.

Ideation and Logistics

In the second phase, XL Academy will focus on creating courses for students in Southeast Asia. We'll research their specific linguistic and cultural needs and collaborate with local educators to design an engaging curriculum. To facilitate enrollment, we'll partner with schools and community organizations, and develop an accessible online registration system. By addressing the unique needs of Southeast Asian students and ensuring a smooth enrollment process, XL Academy aims to positively impact their educational journey.

Launch

The third challenge for XL Academy is securing funding through donations to bootstrap our mission. We'll launch a fundraising campaign, reaching out to individuals, businesses, and philanthropic organizations. Our strategy includes creating marketing materials, leveraging social media, and hosting events to raise awareness and support. By building a network of donors, we aim to secure the financial resources needed to develop programs, recruit educators, and expand our reach, ultimately providing high-quality education to international students.
