Celebrating Tết in Oakland
On a rainy February day, XL's board members hosted a booth at Oakland's 2026 Tết Festival. Despite the downpour, the board handed out waters, candies, and electrolyte packets. Rather than selling goods this time around, we focused on sharing our story and displayed videos to introduce people to our mission and the work we do.
It was a fun opportunity to connect with our Oakland community, and we're already looking forward to the next one.
Spring 2026
XL Academy's First Classes in Huế
XL Academy made a meaningful start to the year. We continued our fundraising efforts and had the opportunity to participate in the Tết festivities in Oakland. Soon after, we launched our courses and began building a regular rhythm of online teaching with students in Huế.
This experience has already taught us a great deal. Our team meets on Saturday mornings to review progress, discuss what is working, and plan upcoming lessons. Later in the evening, because of the time difference, we teach our classes online.
Like any new program, we have had to adapt along the way. There have been challenges, including language differences. While many of us speak Vietnamese, regional dialects and accents can still be difficult to navigate. At the same time, that has made the experience even more rewarding. We are not only teaching, but also learning from our students and from each other.
As our classes continue to grow, we are excited to see the momentum building and are grateful for everyone who has supported XL Academy's mission.
